Racing this weekend at the Tim Myers Senior Meet in Oxford, US National Team swimmer Carson Foster swam the #2 time in the country in the 400 IM.
Foster, whose spot on the National Team was secured via the 200 and 400 IM, swam a 3:43.84 in the 400 yard IM, which wound up being his only individual race of the weekend after he scratched the 200 fly. The only swimmer nationally who has been faster this season is University of Georgia senior Clayton Forde, who swam a 3:42.14 this weekend at the Tennessee Invite.
Foster’s lifetime best is a 3:40.86 that was done at last year’s Winter Junior Championships East. This swim is easily his best outside of a big championship meet.
He also split 24.76 on the breaststroke leg of a 200 mixed medley relay, 1:34.38 on the leadoff leg of an 800 free relay, and a 48.35 on the backstroke leadoff leg of a 400 medley relay. He is the National High School Record holder in the 200 yard free.
His Mason Manta Rays teammate Adam Chaney, who is the top (publicly) uncommitted swimmer in the high school class of 2020, swam and won the men’s 50 free in a new Meet Record of 19.82. That broke the old record of 20.23 that was set in 2011 by Josh Fleagle.
Chaney also won the 50 back in 22.58, swam a 1:39.74 in the 200 free, swam 49.67 in the 100 back, and swam on several relays. His best relay clocking of the weekend was a 19.53 on a 50 free to anchor the mixed 200 medley relay.
Other Noteworthy Swims:
- 15-year old Ava Lachey of the Ohio State Swim Club swam a 50.60 to win the 100 yard free. That ranks her 12th in the country this season among swimmers aged 15 years or younger.
- Justin Fleagle , younger brother of the aforementioned Josh, won the 100 free in 45.38 and the 50 fly in 21.68. That 50 fly time is a new lifetime best for him, and the 100 is just a quarter-of-a-second from his best time.
- Mason swimmer Jacob McDonald won the men’s 200 back in 1:47.65, running down Owen Conley of the Dayton Raiders over the final 50 yards. That’s a new lifetime best for McDonald.
- Another Mason swimmer, Ian van Gorp, won the men’s 200 IM in 1:49.57 and the 200 free in 1:39.23. Those are both new lifetime bests for the Ohio State commit.
- 15-year old Mason swimmer Gibson Holmes set a new Meet Record in the men’s 100 fly with a 48.62. The old record, 48.63, was set nearly two decades ago in the year 2000 by Honza Vitazka. That’s the fastest time in the country by a 15 & under this season.
- 16-year old Elizabeth Andrews from Dublin won the women’s 200 breaststroke in 2:13.24, which also set a new Meet Record.
Well that was probably one of the the most effortless appearing 400IM’s I have seen. It looks like he was doing a practice set then started to go hard in the final 50.
Man, with the exception of his mostly pedestrian turns, that was just about the most flawless 400 IM I’ve ever seen. Looks like he doesn’t have a weak stroke!
His strokes are absolutely exemplary
He really decelerates into his walls.
That was bizarre. It was very noticeable in his freestyle leg.
He was most likely tired
Shame he’s not doing a joe Hudepohl this year. (Set national high school record at Ohio States with a full beard, then making the Olympic team later that spring)
If he drops another 1:32 but with a beard I’ll eat my mizuno
I’ll remember this
I remember Joe, swam with him in Dayton Ohio area summer 1969. Very good swimmer.
Is Carson going to early enroll to Texas in Jan?
No.
This Mason team just churns out stars. It’s ain’t just the Fosters.
A rising tide lifts all boats
His breaststroke has improved so much in the last few months.
His hard work on that stroke will pay off next year.
No more weak stroke.
😎
Finally started listening to his older brother.
