World Championships silver medalist Henrik Christiansen was back in the water tonight in Stavanger, Norway, contesting the men’s 400m freestyle. Already nailing a victory last night in the 1500m free, the International Swimming League (ISL) Team Iron swimmer collected a 2nd gold in a time of 3:43.17.
Christiansen had some competition this evening, primarily in the form of Perth City’s Stephen Milne. Milne owns a career-best in this 400 free short course meters format of 3:40.19 from 4 years ago. That time positions the 25-year-old Olympian as the 4th fastest Briton ever in the event.
Tonight, Milne settled for silver in 3:43.71, while Lukas Martens of Germany rounded out the top 3 in 3:44.74.
Markus Lie of Norway reaped his 3rd gold of the meet, following up his 200m IM and 50m back top prizes from night 1 with a victory in the 100m back this evening. Touching in 52.72, the man won by almost a solid second. He owns the Norwegian national record in the 51.02 he notched during the 2017 FINA World Cup Series.
Speedster Ari-Pekka Liukkonen scorched the only sub-48 second 100m freestyle time of the night for the victory. The World Championships semi-finalist nailed a mark of 47.77. Splitting 22.65/25.12, Liukkonen wasn’t too far off his own PB of 47.56 from 7 years ago.
The women’s 100m free saw Swiss dynamo Mari Ugolkova get to the wall first in a winning effort of 54.01. Her splits of 26.19/27.82 held off Brit Lucy Hope, who touched in 54.15.
Hope had earlier notched a time of 58.79 to top the women’s 100m back podium. She owns a personal best of 58.15 in the event from 2 years ago.

- Marlene Rypestol earned her 2nd win of the meet, adding tonight’s 400m free (4:10.16) to her 800m free gold from last night.
