Annika Freiburger of Boulder City High School and the Boulder City Henderson Heatwave in Henderson, Nevada has announced her intent to be a part of the inaugural team at Division 2 Southwest Minnesota State University. Her career-best times in the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes would have placed her 14th and 11th place, respectively, in prelims at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship meet, while her best time in the 400 yard IM would have placed her in the A final at 7th in prelims. This meet abides by a different event order, since it is division 2, so Freiburger could swim all three events and not have to double up on any of the days.

At the Nevada High School State Championship Meet, Freiburger took home a silver medal in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.85) and placed 4th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.37).

Annika will be joining Addi Schroeder, Natalie Bohnert, MacKenzie Kallevig, Madi Hubert, and Ellie Anselment as Southwest Minnesota State’s first recruiting class ever for the women. She will be joining a very diverse recruiting class, with Schroeder being the only notable breaststroker of the bunch, however, her strengths lean more towards the sprints whereas Freiburger is better at distance freestyle. SMSU had a men’s team from 1970-1980 and competed in the NAIA.
