With the Hungarian National Championships having concluded, the federation has released its roster for the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju. Kristof Milak has made the team on the men’s 200m free, 400m free, 100m fly and 200m fly, while veteran 33-year-old Laszlo Cseh is slated to be in the Gwangju pool in the 50m fly and 200m IM.
Nandor Nemeth‘s monster 100m free National Record earned him a spot on the men’s roster, while Dominik Kozma‘s 200m free, the 2nd best of his career, added his name to the Hungarian line-up.
For the women’, Boglarka Kapas, Katinka Hosszu, Zsuzsanna Jakabos will be joined by youngster Ajna Kesely. However, Hosszu’s events are limited to the 100m back, 200m back, 200m IM and 400m IM, with no 200m fly event in the mix.
In 2017, Hosszu came away with the bronze medal in the 200m fly behind winner Mireia Belmonte of Spain and silver medalist Franziska Hentke of Germany. At the recent Hungarian Championships, however, the 29-year-old found herself in 3rd place behind the qualifiers Kapas and Jakabos, shut out of the line-up in the event.
The same result befell Cseh, who took 200m fly silver in Budapest at the last World Championships. In Debrecen last week, the 33-year-old Olympic icon was overtaken by Milak and Olympic bronze medalist in the event Tamas Kenderesi, but will still take on the 50m fly and 200m IM events in Gwangju.

This is just a list of names that are protected and for sure swim these events unless they choose not to before the official entry deadline. For example, if Kozma (or anyone) swims the A cut in the 100 free he can join Nemeth.

Yes, he will.
In pre-Tusup time she may was a flyer on international scene, but it’s too much for her now. She skipped 200 fly in Rio fearing (and for good reason) to lose 200IM and lost it at home world championships next season in Budapest. I think she has to drop 200 free as well. It is questionable if she even makes a final in this event. Then it would be a wasting of resources that are so valuable for the 30 years old swimmer. If you are betting then there is a good bet that there would be no gold medals won by Hosszu at this WC at all if she races 200 FR (200BK and 400IM go after that).

She was 3rd in the 200 fly at 2017 LCM WCs. If that isn’t being a “flyer on international scene,” what is? And that wasn’t pre-Tusup.
Two European gold medals before marriage and just one bronze medal immediately after. If you follow Hosszu I think you perfectly understood what i meant.

Me not. I know who were on the podium in Budapest, but how can you compare a Europeans to a Worlds. Especially the Europeans just before the Olympics, when half of the big swimming nations weren’t in Debrecen as perhaps you knou, too.
It’s really a matter of taste. I think that at young period of her swimming career before age of 24 she was considered a butterflyer in terms that she would specialise in this stroke.
Her best textile result in 200 fly is of 2013 and among her 10 best times in this event there is only one done after marriage and it was a special meet – the WC in Budapest. I think that 200fly didn’t really fit well Tusup-Hosszu “Iron Lady” business model and she swam this event against weak field only with the exception of special occasions like home WC.

Jakabos or Szilágyi? Szilágyi was the 2nd place in the 200m fly.
