Defending MAC champs Akron won 6 of the first 7 events to power a big win over conference rivals Miami (OH). The Zips won 176.5-123.5 on the road Friday night.
Akron went off to a blazing start Friday, winning the 200 medley relay by more than two seconds. Luka Szynal, Paloma Marrero, Sadie Fazekas and Ragen Engel combined to go 1:41.96, getting a big 28.4 breaststroke leg from Marrero and a 23.9 fly split from Fazekas.
Miami struck back with a 1000 free win courtesy of Emma Bradley (10:17.01), but Akron responded by rattling off 5 straight wins. That included individual victories from Fazekas (1:50.50 in the 200 free), Marrero (1:03.33 in the 100 breast) and Engel (23.43 in the 50 free).
Fazekas would go on to win two more individuals, taking the 100 free (51.50) and 100 fly (54.47). Marrero would also complete a breaststroke sweep with a 2:17.05 win in the 200 breast.
Akron’s A 400 free relay false started, but the Zips still took the event with the B team of Emma King, Ellie Nebraska, Susan Franz and Morgan Waggoner going 3:30.34.
The Redhawks did manage a pair of diving wins from Pei Lin, as well as a 400 IM title out of Holly Shuster in 4:25.73 and a 500 free win from Claire Doerr in 5:04.57.
