UMBC swimming and diving head coach Chad Cradock announced the 2016-17 slate this week, which features three home meets. The Retrievers will look to win their third straight conference titles with the men defending the CCSA crown and the women defending the America East title.
“We are excited for this years schedule. We have added great teams including Old Dominion, Towson and George Mason. This schedule will set us up well for the end of the season,” head coach Chad Cradock said of the 2016-17 slate.
The Retrievers will open the season with an exhibition meet at Bucknell on October 1. The first scored meet of the year will be a tri-meet at Navy with George Mason on October 7, follows by the first home meet of the year against Towson on Saturday, Oct. 22. The month of October closes with a dual meet against CCSA foe Gardner-Webb on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the YSSC in Duncan, S.C.
November will feature just two meets, as UMBC will host Old Dominion on Saturday, Nov. 5, before traveling to George Mason for the Mason Invitational November 17-19.
UMBC will conclude the regular season with a home meet against Howard and Vermont (women only) on Saturday, Jan. 7 on Senior/Alumni Day. The Retrievers will close the season against rival East Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 21 before heading to conference championships.
The UMBC women will look to win their third straight America East Championship at WPI in Worcester, Mass. on February 9-12. From there the Retrievers will head to the ECAC Championships (Feb. 24-26) before going to the NCAA Zone Diving Championships (Mar. 6-8, Christianburg, Va.) and the NCAA Championships (Mar. 15-18, Indianapolis, Ind.).
The men will head to Athens, Ga. for the CCSA Championships at the University of Georgia from February 15-18. They will then go to the ECAC Championships, and NCAA Zone Diving Championships, with their NCAA Championships being held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. on March 22-25.
“Our schedule will be challenging and will make us better. We are excited to get started soon,” Cradock stated.
