Ohio State Gets 2017 Verbal from 4th-Generation Buckeye, Katie Trace

2016 Olympic Trials qualifier Katie Trace has verbally committed to swim for The Ohio State University in the fall of 2017. Trace swims and plays water polo at Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, Ohio; she also competes with the Upper Arlington Swim Club. Her coach for both teams is Dan Peterkoski.

At the 2016 OHSAA Swimming & Diving State Championships in February, Trace led Upper Arlington to its second consecutive girls’ state title, and 11th win in the past 13 years. She won the 200 free (1:47.11) and 500 free (4:49.50) individually, and anchored the winning 200 free relay (23.42) and second-place 400 free relay (51.19).

In addition to mid-distance freestyle, Trace excels in fly and IM. She qualified for 2016 Trials in the 400m IM at the Futures meet in North Carolina last summer, and has achieved national time standards in the 200 back, 200 fly, and 200 IM as well. Her top times are:

  SCY LCM
100 free 52.65 59.77
200 free 1:47.11 2:04.93
500/400 free 4:49.22 4:24.65

Trace will be called on to replace rising Buckeye senior Lindsey Clary; she will come to Ohio State well ahead of where Clary was when she committed to Ohio State as a high school senior. Trace will be joining her brother Thomas, who swims for the men’s team, and her sister Betsy, who plays water polo for OSU.

“I am excited to be part of the fourth-generation of our family to attend Ohio State! I took an unofficial visit in the spring, and from then on I knew it was the right place for me. After considering all that OSU has to offer, I couldn’t be happier to announce my verbal commitment! I love the campus, and the academics are unparalleled. I plan on majoring in Exercise Science or Athletic Training, and Ohio State’s medical program is second to none. The team is so unique and has so many different personalities, and I’m looking forward to joining them! I’m also excited to be a part of what I know will be a very strong recruiting class of 2017!”
