Denison’s Jackson Lindell Lowers Own 200 IM Record at DIII Finals

After blasting a lifetime-best 1:46.07 this morning in prelims to break Andrew Wilson’s NCAA Division III record in the 200 IM, junior Jackson Lindell took another slice off the mark with a 1:46.00 in finals.

Lindell went out like a rocket, getting a leg up on Johns Hopkins’ Evan Holder who tends to have a stronger second half. Lindell was .34 faster in his butterfly than in the morning, and while it kept him in front of Holder, it may have taken just a bit out of the rest of his race. He finished the next three 50s just a tick off his morning pace.

It was an exciting finish. Holder pulled even with Lindell at the breast-to-free wall and the two barreled down the last 50 yards together. Lindell accelerated flags-to-wall and ended up ahead of his morning time.

Prior to 2016 NCAAs Lindell’s previous personal best was the 1:47.93 he achieved at the Miami University Invitational in December 2015.

Here are comparative splits of Wilson’s 2015 NCAA record and Lindell’s two 2016 NCAA records:

Lindell, 3/2016 f Lindell, 3/2016 p Wilson, 3/2015
22.94 23.28 23.37
26.87 26.69 27.67
30.92 30.90 28.91
25.27 25.20 26.28
1:46.00 1:46.07 1:46.23
