S13 Para World Record Holder Colleen Young Commits to Fairfield Stags

The Fairfield University Stags have secured a verbal commitment from one of the most unique and decorated athletes of the class of 2016.

Colleen Young was only 13 years old when she traveled with Team USA to London as the youngest member of the Paralympic squad.  Since then, the legally blind s13 category athlete has continued with the National A team, recently taking bronze in the 100 meter back and 100 meter breaststroke at the IPC World Swimming Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Colleen currently holds the 50, 100, & 200 Breaststroke Long Course Meters and Short Course Yards American Records and the 200 Meter Breaststroke World Record for the s13 category.

Colleen swims for Coach Dave McCrary with the Clayton Shaw Park Tideriders in St. Louis.  Her current best times will contribute immediately for the Stags, as her best 200 breast would already have landed her in the A-final at the MAAC Championship based on 2015 results.  Her 200 IM and 100 breast would also have landed her solidly in the B-final as well, making her a valuable pick up for Fairfield.

Colleen’s top times:

100 Breast – 1:08.08 yards, 1:19.23 meters

200 Breast – 2:26.86 yards, 2:49.70 meters

200 IM – 2:13.50 yards,  2:32.31 meters

100 Back – 1:05.38 yards,  1:12.88 meters

50 Free – 25.41 yards,  28.87 meters

I think she set a world record at the Jenks pool during long course sectionals in spring, 2012. Congratulations on your college choice!
