Nevada’s Sam Sauerbrei Commits to Swim for University of Iowa

Sam Sauerbrei, a senior at Boulder City High School in Boulder City, Nevada, has committed to swim for University of Iowa beginning in the fall of 2015. Sauerbrei is a member of Boulder City Henderson Heatwave club team, where he specializes primarily in fly, breast and IM.

At the 2014 Nevada Division IA High School Championships, Sauerbrei placed second in the 200 IM going 1:53.29, coming in under the previous meet record; he was also second in the 100 breast with 58.52. He further helped Boulder City win its third consecutive state title by swimming on the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Sauerbrei had a couple of breakout meets in December 2014, earning national cuts at Juniors and then improving a week later at CA/NV Sectionals. His top SCY events are:

200y fly – 1:49.40
100y fly – 51.06
400y IM – 3:57.73
200y IM – 1:52.09
100y breast – 58.52
200y free – 1:42.03

The Hawkeyes are graduating several butterfliers and could use some strength in the 200 fly where they had only 1 finalist, and the 400 IM where they had none, at 2015 B1G Championships. Sauerbrei will join a strong recruiting class that also consists of:
