Rising Arizona Distance Star Drew Eisen Signs with Iowa Hawkeyes

Drew Eisen, a senior at Horizon High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa next fall, explaining his decision to become a Hawkeye as follows:

“Coach Long and Coach King made me feel like part of the Iowa swimming community during my visit. I could tell right away, after meeting a couple guys on the team, that they had a unique, family atmosphere. Their coaching philosophy, training program, and one of the finest aquatic facilities in the country blended well with the academic opportunities offered at the University of Iowa.”

Eisen was a finalist in the 500 free at the 2014 Arizona State High School Championships, and since then, has had impressive drops in all his distance freestyle races. Already, this season he has posted US Open, Summer Junior Nationals, and Winter Senior National qualifying times in the 1000 & 1650. He won the Central Zone Sectional title in the 1650, and was runner-up in the 1000. His best events, with the improvement he has made over the past 12 months, are:

Event 2014 2015
500 Free 4:42.84 4:32.87
1000 Free 9:42.87 9:12.80
1650 Free 16:01.93 15:32.24

Eisen swims under head coach Nate Moore at Life Time Arizona Swim Team, who said, “Drew is one of the hardest trainers I have ever seen in my coaching career. He is just scratching the surface of what I believe he will be in the future. I feel confident that Coach Long and the Iowa staff will provide the environment Drew needs to reach his potential as a swimmer and student.”
