Bethany Abramczyk Stays In-State; Commits to Oakland University

Bethany Abramczyk, a senior at Lake Orion High School in Lake Orion, Michigan, has announced her verbal commitment to Oakland University for the upcoming 2015-2016 season.

“I chose Oakland because during my visit, I found the team spirit to be outstanding. This was a group that I wanted to be a part of for the next four years. The coaches are very genuine and kind, and every teammate there acts with sportsmanship. The pool is one of the best in the state and the school has a great program for what I wish to study. [Editor’s note: Bethany plans to study Education at Oakland, either in Elementary, Special Education, or Secondary Mathematics.] I am excited to become a Golden Grizzly!”

Abramczyk is member of Liquid Lightning Swim Club whose best short course times include:

50y free – 25.03
100y free – 53.86
200y free – 1:53.52
500y free – 5:05.83
100y back – 59.01
200y back – 2:08.55

As a junior, Abramczyk became Lake Orion High School’s first-ever female swimmer to achieve four All-State honors in one year when she took sixth in both the 200 free and 500 free, and was a member of Lake Orion’s sixth-place 200 and 400 free relays at the Michigan High School Division I Championships.

Oakland’s move to the Horizon League with the 2013-14 season was less-than-traumatic; both the women’s and men’s teams won their respective conference titles. As dominant as the Golden Grizzlies were, they could have used another body in each of Abramczyk’s events: 500 free, 200 free, and 100 back. Abramczyk’s current times would have made each of the B-finals.
