2026 European Juniors Medal Table Through Day Three: Spain And France Have Work To Do

2026 EUROPEAN JUNIOR SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

We’re officially at the halfway point of the 2026 European Junior Swimming Championships which means we’re getting an even clearer picture of how the overall medal table is shaping up.

While Great Britain, the Neutral Athletes and Italy are carrying on strong positions from their respective top three finishes last year in Slovakia, the nations of Spain and France are not trending toward finishing in the top six as they did one year ago.

Last time around, with the Neutral Athletes not actually ranking, the nation of Spain placed 3rd overall with a hefty total of 14 pieces of hardware. That included 4 golds, 5 silvers and 5 bronze.

France was also impressive, bringing home 5 medals including 2 golds.

However, here in Munich, both nations possess just three medals at this mark, with Spain having earned three silvers and France clinching three bronze thus far. As such, both are seeking their first podium-topping performance.

They’ll have their chances this evening, as both France and Spain will see multiple athletes representing their flags during the finals.

France will see Jeanne Lechevalier in the girls’ 200m back, Gabriel Crassard in the boys’ 50m free and Nathan Muratory in the boys’ 200m back. Spain will look for medals via Sara Costa in the girls’ 200m back, Luca Hoek in the boys’ 50m free and Joaquin Pavon in the boys’ 100m fly event.

Spain have an extremely young group – A really high percentage of their girls are from the 2011 age group, they’re very fast for their ages and are definitely worth keeping an eye on. France look well behind (apart from Lechevalier and Cristofini) in most events.

GB doing surprisingly well despite our big names prioritising other events – Hannah Capron has been very much overshadowed by Taylor, but 25.3/55.0 PBs so far this week is serious progress. She’ll remain a junior next year.

Interesting Smith and Talyor have no more individual event entries and didn’t feature in this mornings relay.

Have they left?

Really impressive swims from both coming in untapered, Taylor doesn’t look million miles behind Erisman on freestyle, which is quite scary given her breast and fly ability.
