2026 Canadian Swimming Trials

Kylie Masse is the biggest name to scratch on day 4 of the 2026 Canadian swimming trials, skipping the 50 free in which she was the #22 seed. With no entries remaining tomorrow, it looks as though the Canadian record holder at all three backstroke distances has wrapped up her meet.

She was the #22 seed in 26.15, although owns a best of 25.49 from Olympic Trials in 2021. She swam the event in short course at two of the three World Aquatics Swimming World Cup stops in October, clocking 25.42 in Carmel and 25.34 in Westmont.

Masse has competed in two events so far this week, winning the 50 back on day 2 in 27.35 and placing second behind Taylor Ruck in the 100 back on day 1 in 58.87. Both of those are solid times for her, although a little slower than the 27.34 and 58.18 she clocked at Canadian Trials last year.

Summer McIntosh‘s withdrawal from the 200 IM, in which she is the world record holder, was expected after she announced after yesterday morning’s prelims session that she was withdrawing from the remainder of the meet due to injury. She won the 200 fly on day 1 in a new world record of 2:01.65, then won the 400 IM on day 2 in 4:27.35.

Francis Brennan is skipping the 200 IM today, giving himself a day off ahead of a potential 200 back swim. The SMU freshman is the #3 seed in that event in 1:59.81, and placed 6th in the 200 free earlier this meet after setting a new PB of 1:48.75.

The men’s 50 free is also missing a high seed, after Qatari swimmer Ali Sayed pulled out having been the #4 seed. He placed second in the ‘B’ final of the 100 free on Monday in 50.11, off his best of 49.10.
