Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Domenico Sotomayor from Lima, Peru, has announced his verbal commitment to Arizona State University’s class of 2032, writing on social media:
“I’m beyond grateful and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue with both my academic and athletic careers at Arizona State University. Thank you God, my family, specially my sister, and everyone who’s supported me along this process. I would like to thank Coach Herbie, Coach Mike, and all the ASU coaches for this incredible opportunity. So excited to be part of this family, Go Devils and Forks Up!🔱”
Sotomayor, a rising high school junior, will have at least one friendly face when he arrives in Tempe in the fall of 2028: his sister, Alexia Sotomayor, will be a senior on the Sun Devils’ women’s team. Alexia attended Saint Andrews School in Florida before college. So far, Domenico has not yet attended high school in the United States, but his Instagram profile mentions Bolles School, so one might reasonably assume he will follow in his sister’s footsteps by attending boarding school in Florida before heading to college.
16-year-old Sotomayor is the Peruvian national record-holder in the LCM 1500 free (15:44.52) and SCM 1500 free (15:16.97). He established the former in May at the Canet-en-Roussillon stage of Mare Nostrum, and the latter at the 2026 Peruvian National Short Course Championships earlier this month. At that same meet, he took down Juvenil B age group records in the 1500 free (15:16.97), 800 free (8:04.07), 400 free (3:52.38), and 200 free (1:49.49).
Best SCM/LCM times (best conversion):
- 1500 free – 15:16.97/15:44.52 (15:11.50)
- 800 free – 8:04.07/8:15.78 (9:13.22)
- 400 free – 3:52.88/3:57.29 (4:25.57)
- 200 free – 1:49.49/1:53.84 (1:38.63)
ASU, often tagged as a sprint program, has a lot of depth in mid-distance. Six men on the 2025-26 roster were 1:33 or better in the 200 free (Remi Fabiani, Quin Seider, Filip Senc-Samardzic, Jonny Kulow, Mattia Mauri, JT Ewing); three went 4:15-4:16 in the 500 (Noah Mudadu, Reece Grady, Mauri); and two were between 15:01 and 15:02 in the mile (Andrew Taylor, Mudadu).
With two full years to improve his times before starting at ASU, Sotomayor would already score 6th in the 1650 free and in the ‘C’ final of the 500 free at Big 12 Men’s Championships. It took 1:36.75 in the 200 free to get a second swim at the 2026 conference meet.
