Lewis Clareburt, Erika Fairweather Lead 13-Strong Kiwi Roster For Commonwealth Games

Swimming New Zealand has revealed its 13-strong roster slated to represent the nation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

World champions Erika Fairweather and Lewis Clareburt headline the squad, with seven athletes headed to their first-ever Games.

22-year-old Fairweather qualified in the individual events of the women’s 200m/400m/800m/1500m freestyle and will also be taking on the women’s 4x200m free relay and mixed 4x100m free relay.

On her selection, the Olympic finalist stated, “Glasgow is going to be an amazing experience and I’m really looking forward to the competition.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to compete for my first Commonwealth Games medal.”

Clareburt, too, is expected to take on a pack schedule, one which includes the 200m/400m IM, 200m fly and 200m free races.

Swimming New Zealand Head Coach – Olympic Pathway, Graham Hill, said the team is building well ahead of their Glasgow 2026 campaign.

“The depth in this squad, across relays, individual events and Para swimming gives us real reason for confidence. We’re going to be very competitive and every athlete on this team is capable of outstanding performances.

“The Commonwealth Games is a pinnacle campaign for us and crucially, it also gives us a great opportunity to compete and test ourselves at an elite event just two years out from the Olympic Games.”

At the last edition of the Commonwealth Games, New Zealand placed 4th in the overall swimming medal table, amassing 9 pieces of hardware, including 5 golds. Individual gold medalists included Andrew Jeffcoat in the men’s 50m back and Clareburt capturing 200m fly and 400m IM gold medals. Para swimmers Joshua Wilmer and Sophie Pascoe also landed atop the podium in the men’s SB8 100m breast and women’s S9 100m freestyle, respectively.
