At the Ft Lauderdale Open, Ilya Kharun took on a parred down schedule, swimming in the 50-100 Free and Fly. The ASU product had success there, winning the 50 (22.9) and 100 (50.8) Fly while placing 4th in the 50 free (22.3) and 10th in the 100 Free (49.49).

Having just returned to training off the back of the NCAA Championships, Kharun now has his sights set on the US Nationals in Irvine, where he plans to swim the 200 Fly in addition to his shorter events. Kharun hopes to put up impressive times in Irvine ahead of being eligible to represent the Stars and Stripes internationally in the fall.

Well, the US men’s team definitely needs more gold medals in ’28, and adding more talent gives us more chances. We didn’t even have an American swimmer in the men’s 2 fly in Paris, but he made the podium in that race, and in the 100 fly as well. Glad to have him on our side.

Hoping to see him in his home pool Sun Devil Open, May 15-17, 2026.

Did I hear him say he is going to at least one of the Mare Nostrum events? Or all of them? Interested to see his progression over the Summer after he’s trained a bit more. Hope he can put up great times in the 100 and 200 Fly

Great news. I was unsure what his eligibility was to swim events over the Summer. I wasn’t clear on which events he’d be able to enter while repping ASU/Sun Devil Swimming. I’m glad to hear he’s got so many LC meet opportunities while he’s still waiting for his USA representation to kick in.
