Andrew Maksymowski might be months from starting his college career, but he certainly isn’t taking the waning days of high school lightly.

At the Mt. SAC HS spring meet of champions, the USC commit from Northwood High School who also swims club for Irvine Novaquatics turned in a personal best performance in the 200 free, clocking a time of 1:34.71. He not only won the event, but broke the Novaquatics senior team record of 1:35.17 set by Olympian Scott Tucker back in 2002.

While it was a high school meet, the time was recognized as a club team record.

Maksymowski also won the 100 free in a time of 44.22 and split 43.44 in the anchor leg for Northwood’s 400 free relay team that won with a time of 3:00.97.

Other team members were Michael Wang (44.45), Liam von Schonfeldt (47.20) and Max Chen (45.88).

Other individual standouts at the meet were:

  • Miles Blackson-Dunbar of Crossroads, a Tennessee commit, won the 100 back during the boys’ competition in a neck-and-neck race with Army commit Kyle Tsuei of John Rowland. Blackson-Dunbar touched the wall in a time of 48.20, just seven-one-hundreths ahead of Tsuei.
  • Kayla Han of La Mirada High School, who has committed to Indiana, won the 200 IM in a time of 1:58.47 during the girls’ competition, actually clocking a better time of 1:58.41 in prelims. She also won the 500 free in a time of 4:44.79.
  • Also in the girls’ competition, La Canada High School senior Meredith O’Grady, a UCLA commit, won the 100 free in a personal best 50.20 and the 200 free in 1:48.84.
  • In the boys’ competition, University High School sophomore Ethan Mak dominated the 1-meter diving event, winning with 525.25 points. The total was well-ahead of the 441.50 points earned by second-place James Koempel of Loyola.
