Brown Hires Texas Associate Head Coach Mitch Dalton As Next Head Coach Of Women’s Program

Texas associate head coach Mitch Dalton has been named the next head coach of the women’s swimming and diving program for Brown University, the school announced Monday afternoon.

Dalton will arrive at Brown after spending the last six season at Texas. He arrived at Texas in fall 2020 as an assistant coach. Since arriving at Texas, the Texas women have not finished lower than 3rd at the NCAA Championships as they were 3rd in 2021, 2025, and 2026 as well as 2nd in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Prior to his arrival, Texas had not finished 3rd or higher since 2001.

Before Texas, Dalton spent five years as USA Swimming National Junior Team Director. There his primary role was to direct domestic and international National Junior Team programs and activities, including training camps and competitions, in regular consultation with the coaches of National Junior Team athletes, USA Swimming staff and outside professionals.

Dalton will return to the Ivy League as he spent five seasons with the Princeton men’s swimming program before his role at USA Swimming. While with Princeton, helped guide the Tigers to four conference titles.

The Brown women finished 4th out of eight teams at the 2026 Ivy League Championships. The team sent two individual swimmers, Morgan Lukinac and Natalie Garre, to the 2026 NCAA Championships. Lukinac announced in the fall that she would transfer to Ohio State as a graduate transfer for the upcoming season. Garre will be a junior this fall.

Last month, Brown announced a leadership change as Kate Kovenock would not return as head coach.

Fantastic news for Mitch and for Brown. He was an all-star at Princeton and is held in very high regard by all of the swimmers he coached.
