3-Time Australian Olympian Chris Fydler May Be Next Chef De Mission

3-time Australian Olympic swimmer Chris Fydler is reportedly the top candidate poised to take over the Chef de mission role for Tokyo 2020. Having served in a deputy Chef de mission position for the past 2 Olympics, Fydler is in the running to take over the top position after incumbent Kitty Chiller has told the Australian Olympic Committee she would be relinquishing her role before Tokyo 2020 to pursue a corporate career.

Per News Corp, Chiller told the AOC,  “I have struggled with the decision, it has been hard. I love the athletes and the Olympic movement. I didn’t want to rush it because I wanted to be sure.

“I have probably always known what it would be and I am so busy now with the corporate work that I have been doing that now it just feels right.”

Fydler represented Australia on the international swimming scene consistently from 1989 through 2000. He was a member of the nation’s gold medal-winning 4x100m freestyle relay in Sydney at the 2000 Olympic Games.

The AOC Executive Board is meeting on August 24th where it will discuss a replacement.
