Day 2 Prelims Heat Sheet

For the second straight day, World Champion Luca Urlando has withdrawn from prelims session. The 200 fly champion from Singapore, Urlando has pulled out of the 100 fly, where he was the #2 seed behind Aiden Hayes. Urlando’s name appears on the psych sheet in a further two events, the 200 fly and 50 fly, but it is becoming increasingly unlikely that he will swim them, as he continues to recover from an injury that kept him out of March’s NCAA Championships.

Also apparently not planning on swimming at this morning is Indiana Swim Club’s Josh Matheny. The 23-year-old three time World’s medalist placed 11th in the prelims of the 50 breaststroke yesterday, but has scratched out of the 200 breaststroke this morning, where the #3 seed was one of three swimmers seeded under 2:09. Matheny was not the lone top eight seed to withdraw from the event as Minnesota’s Joe Polyak, the 5th seed has also withdrawn.
