  • 2nd – 5 points
  • 3rd – 4 points

Men’s 50 Freestyle Top Four

Night three of the men’s NCAA Championships was surprising in different ways than night two. Most of the event winners weren’t major surprises, but the swimmers filled in after the top spots were harder to predict

User “Walsh-Madden-Grimes-Weinstein” had the top score on day three with 61 total points after they correctly predicted the top swimmer in the 100 back (and the correct four athletes); the 1st, 3rd, and 4th place finishers in the 200 breast; the 2nd place finisher in the 500 free; and the 1st and 4th place positions in the 50 free, and had correct athletes for the other two spots, just in the wrong order.

The meet opened with the men’s 100 backstroke where Hubert Kos set a new NCAA Record. 213 entrants predicted he would earn this title. Only 9 people chose Ruard van Renen to take 2nd in the 100 back, and just seven picked Will Modglin to finish 4th. Only one user predicted the correct podium in order: “B1GWinner”

In the 200 breast, Cal sophomore Yamato Okadome finished 1st, picking up his 2nd breaststroke title of the meet. 152 entrants correctly predicted this finish. Nearly everyone else chose Texas junior Nate Germonprez, who finished outside the top four entirely. The biggest shock of the event was Indiana freshman Josh Bey, who finished 2nd, which only six people guessed. Nobody got the correct podium in order.

The only surprise event winner was Florida’s Ahmed Hafnaoui in the men’s 500 freestyle. He swam the top time of 4:06.56, beating both Ahmed Jaouadi and Rex Maurer. Only three people chose this finish. 162 people predicted Jaouadi to finish 2nd, and only four chose Maurer to finish 3rd. There were 52 people that correctly chose Zalan Sarkany to take 4th. Again, no one guessed the top four in the right order.

The 50 free was the most predictable event of the session. Florida senior Josh Liendo swam the top time, which 269 people guessed. There were 119 correct predictions for Gui Caribe to finish 2nd, 115 for Ilya Kharun to finish 3rd, and 94 for Quintin McCarty to take 4th.

The meet wrapped up with the 400 medley relay, and most of the entries had some variation of ASU, Texas, and Florida as the top three teams. Michigan finished 4th, though, which only 28 entries predicted.
