The second day of the 2026 French Elite Championships saw another batch of swimmers make the team for the European Championships in August, to be held in Paris. This is the primary selection meet for the Championships, with results from the French Junior Championships applicable in events where the four available spots are not all taken up.
Here’s a quick rundown of the selection procedure for this meet before we get into the roster update after the second day.
- The top four swimmers at the meet may be selected to the meet, provided they earn the French qualifying standard in the ‘A’ final at the French Elite Championships
- Subject to availability, athletes who swam qualifying times at the French Junior Championships may be selected to the team
- For the women’s, men’s, and mixed freestyle relays, selection will be proposed for the top four swimmers from the A-final whose combined individual performances meet the required relay time. The times recorded in the heats may be considered to validate the relay time.
An additional four swimmers added their names to the roster today, with a fifth, junior swimmer Nathan Muratory, likely being added in the men’s 200 back after only three swimmers beat the qualification time.
Marie Wattel became the first swimmer to qualify in multiple events as she added the 50 fly to the 100 free she qualified in yesterday. She took the win in 25.99, 0.05 seconds ahead of Albane Cachot, who makes her first senior international team.
The top three in the men’s 200 back all dipped under the 1:58 .46 qualifying time, which included 2025 world bronze medalist Yohann Ndoye-Brouard. The women’s 200 free (Lucille Tessariol) and 50 fly (Melanie Henique) saw narrow misses.
Neither the women’s 4×200 free relay nor the men’s 4×100 free relay teams hit their qualifying times tonight.
