- Prelims: Day 1
The first finals session of the 2026 Commonwealth Games is upon us, and there was only one scratch after prelims on day one.
Canada’s Kylie Masse scratched women’s 50 butterfly semifinal after finishing 11th in the event prelims. She stopped the clock in 27.05, a second-and-a-half behind top qualifier Alexandra Perkins from Australia, who swam 25.55 for the top seed.
Masse’s best time in the event is 26.59 from April of 2023, which would have been 7th in the prelims. She is stronger in the backstroke events and still has the 50 backstroke and 100 backstroke later this week.
The 100 back is tomorrow, and the semifinals of the event happen tomorrow about 40 minutes before the 50 fly final.
Masse’s scratch moves Northern Ireland’s Alana Burns-Atkin to finals position after she swam 27.67 to finish 17th.
