2025 EYOF Day Four: Alessandra Mao Claims 200 Free Victory

2025 EUROPEAN YOUTH OLYMPIC FESTIVAL

The penultimate night of racing at the 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival saw 14-year-old Alessandra Mao dive in for the final of the girls’ 200m freestyle.

Already a winner in the 100m free with a head-turning time of 54.98, Italy’s Mao got it done for gold in the 200m distance in a time of 2:00.13, beating the field by nearly a second.

Polish swimmer Barbara Lesniewska was next to the wall in 2:01.09 followed by Germany’s Zarina Selimovic who bagged the bronze in 2:02.73.

As for Mao, her performance this evening represented the 2nd-best of her young career, one which boasts a PB of 1:58.86 notched in April of this year.

The boys’ 200m back final was also on tonight’s agenda, an event which saw Great Britain’s Austyn Manley power his way to the top of the podium in 2:04.84.

Manley’s gold this evening followed up on the 200m IM gold he earned last night.

Italy’s Giorgio Sartori was the silver medalist tonight in 2:05.12 followed by Germany’s Anass Lahrach who rounded out the podium in 2:05.62.

Additional Winners

  • Hungarian Boroka Zsofia Kertesz reached the wall first in the girls’ 100m fly, posting a gold medal-worthy result of 1:00.14.
  • The boys’ 50mfree saw Belarusian athlete Mikia Liakh top the podium in 22.73 as the sole swimmer of the pack to delve under the 23-second barrier.
  • Italy reaped gold in the mixed medley relay, posting a result of 4:00.42. That narrowly defeated Great Britain who settled for silver in 4:00.44 followed by Spain, who bagged the bronze in 4:01.86.
