Day 5 Prelims Heat Sheet
With just one heat of the Women’s 4×200 free relay there will be not sneaky fast times that occurred in the early heats of the prelims of the Mixed Medley Relay. However, that said, the team will be sure to be looking for a good lane, and each swimmer will want to produce a good time to ensure themselves a spot in tonight’s final.
The Hungarians in lane 7 will be sure to be strong as they are using the same quartet that led them to the silver medal last December at Short Course Worlds. On the flip side, the United States is using none of the swimmers (at least in the prelims) from their gold medal and World record-breaking performance from the Budapest Worlds.
Team USA is opening with Simone Manuel, who finished 7th in the event at nationals, and then are calling upon Anna Peplowski, who tied for 4th, to swim the 2nd leg. Anna Moesch, who finished 14th at Trials in the event, has been called up to swim the 3rd leg with Bella Sims on anchor. Sims anchored this relay to the Gold medal at the 2022 Worlds, so the position is familiar, but Moesch’s inclusion likely means that Team USA is saving Erin Gemmell for the final or that she is too sick to compete.
China is opening with their 12-year-old phenom, Yu Zidi, while the Australians, the Olympic Champions, are opening with Abbey Webb and anchoring with Brittany Castelluzzo.

That does not mean they are saving Erin Gemmell for the final. She went a 2:00 in the final yesterday…if anything they should learn their lesson and test her in prelims this morning.
Huske 53:99. Should be through
Thankfully, only 2 teams getting left out from heats to the final. But glad to see that Greg is still trying to put out an unfathomable lineup and give missing it a shot.
If there’s only one heat of the 4×200 may as well just have a 9 lane final what’s the point of just eliminating one team
It’s as useless as semi finals for women’s 200 fly lol
Sorry but in what universe is Gemmell going straight to finals after a 2:00 last night?
I mean, if anyone’s gonna do it it’s these coaches
They don’t have to use her. Fastest two plus Katie and Claire.
She’s sick. She almost pulled out before the final last night. She probably isn’t swimming the relay at all.
Sooo 3 of these 4 plus Ledecky is our finals lineup right?
Um, Claire Weinstein?
Oh yeah duh. Losing my mind here. I guess Peplowski, Manuel, Ledecky, Weinstein probably.
Just swim a 10 lane final what is the point of prelims
Luckily Mollie can have a bit of a rest. And hopefully Brit scores a World medal.
