Klevanovich, who won the 50 free last night with a best time of 21.66, hit the wall in 47.96. This represents her first time breaking 48, as her previous best was the 48.00 she produced at the James E. Martin Invitational last February.
Duke senior Tatum Wall was the third-fastest qualifier at 48.30, six tenths outside her 47.70 season best from a dual meet versus Northwestern earlier in the month. She’s been as quick as 47.65 in her career, so if she’s able to get within range of those 47-mid times, she will be a contender for the win.
Qualifiers 3-8 were tightly bunched, as just 0.39 separates them heading into tonight’s final.
