2017 Bucknell Invite Day 1 Finals Gets Off To Fast Start

Finals on Day 1 of the Bucknell Invitational got off to a fast start this evening with a lot of exciting races.

Women 200 Free Relay

Fordham (Michelle Martin, Sammy McDonald, Tara Brunner and Caitlin McNary) took an early lead and held onto it through the entire race for 1st place with a time of 1:33.67. Towson (Annemarie Schnoor, Ryan Ulrich, Jacy Icard and Caitlin Manthe) took 2nd (1:34.11) followed closely by Bucknell (Emily Gorham, Caroline Edelman, Katherine O’Shea and Abigail Rosenberg) in 3rd with 1:34.51.

Men 200 Free Relay

LaSalle took an early lead and held it until Fordham overtook them in the 3rd leg. A disappointing DQ for Fordham put LaSalle back in 1st place. The LaSalle team (Marcus Forsgren, Sammy Odtallah, Jakub Batosiewicz and Norman Gregory) finished with a time of 1:22.56. Georgetown (Jack Calderwood, Andrew Stange, Jacob Kohlhoff and Seth Maslowski) battled it out with Old Dominion (Anton Mikealsson, Conner Davis, Filip Svedberg and Parker Harp) for 2nd place finishing with a 1:23.26 and 1:23.28 respectively.  

Women 500 Free

Towson freshman top seed Karlee Carminati and Georgetown sophomore Nina Barrett were neck and neck through most of the race leaving the rest of the pack far behind. Barrett pulled ahead with 100 yards to go to finish in 4:52.24 while Carminati placed 2nd at 4:53.56. Towson teammate sophomore Sarah Locke took 3rd with a 4:56.31.

Men 500 Free

Evan Brophy, Townson junior, and LaSalle junior, Kyle McElwee took an early lead and were back and forth until Brophy overtook McElwee with 200 yards remaining to finish in 4:30.91. McElwee took 2nd with 4:33.95 and Ethan Apisa, Old Dominion freshman, was right behind them to finish in 4:35.27 for 3rd.

Men 1 Meter Diving

LaSalle senior Dylan Yurasits finished way ahead with 329.95 points. In 2nd place was Ryan O’Connell, Binghamton senior, with 278.60 and LaSalle teammate, sophomore Blake Griffin scored 271.10 points for 3rd.

Women 200 IM

Top seed Fordham sophomore Mia Bullock and Old Dominion junior Ashley Bremm fought for 1st until Bremm pulled ahead to take 1st with a time of 2:02.94. Bucknell freshman Maggie Wyngowski snuck in to take 2nd with a 2:04.30 with Bullock finishing 3rd in 2:04.36.

Men 200 IM

Jack Saunderson, Towson junior, was top seed and took the early lead. After breaststroke, LaSalle senior, Fabian Bergman, had pulled ahead to finish 1st with a time of 1:49.22. Saunderson (1:49.85) was out touched by Georgetown freshman, Drew Carbone who finished in 1:49.83.

Women 50 Free

Top seed Fordham freshman Michelle Martin fought hard to maintain the lead and took 1st with a 23.27. Ryan Ulrich, Towson junior, swam a 23.60 to finish 2nd followed by Bucknell senior, Caroline Edelman with 23.69.

Men 50 Free

Fordham senior Joe Mercurio held onto his top seed to finish in 20.89, barely out touching Towson senior Nick Essing (20.90). Kevin Adams-Mardi took the lead off the blocks then finished 3rd in 21.02.

Women 3 Meter Diving

Towson teammates, junior Kelsey Jehl (287.45 points) and junior Emily Wilson(258.20 points) took 1st and 3rd places with Georgetown sophomore Elizabeth Miller placing 2nd with 262.45 points.

Women 400 Medley Relay

The Towson women dominated the 400 Medley Relay as their A team (Jacy Icard, Amanda Rosa, Megan Cowan and Annemarie Schnoor) placed 1st with a time of 3:45.84 and their B team (Haley Sutton, Jacalyn Schoening, Tara Goss and Caitlin Manthe) placed 3rd (3:48.02). Bucknell (Emma Hadley, Leah Bloodgood, Lindsay Smalec and Emily Gorham) took 2nd swimming a 3:46.36.

Men 400 Medley Relay

The 400 Medley Relay was a tight race. The LaSalle team of Fabian Bergman, Dimitri Mladenovic, Jakub Batosiewicz and Marcus Forsgren lead through backstroke but Old Dominion (Anton Mikealsson, Peter Durisin, Filip Svedberg and Parker Harp) pulled ahead in breaststroke and held the lead through most of butterfly. LaSalle and Towson (Zach Bishop, Ryan O’Leary, Jack Saunderson and Nick Essing) were neck and neck by the end of fly. Old Dominion pulled ahead in the last 15 yards to place 1st with a time of 3:18.38. LaSalle (3:19.56) and Towson (3:20.15) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
