2014 Wounded Warrior Pacific Invitational to include swimming events

More than 100 current and former military members will compete in the Wounded Warrior Pacific Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii this week, an event that will include adapted swimming competitions as part of its event lineup.

The event is designed to help create a smoother transition between military and civilian life for military members who have suffered severe injuries. The warriors will compete in events ranging from wheelchair basketball to to cycling to seated volleyball to swimming.

This will be the first annual Pacific Invitational, and it kicks off a series of adaptive athletic events scheduled for 2014 leading up to the annual Warrior Games. The Pacific Invitational also looks to be the largest event on the schedule outside of the prestigious Warrior Games.

The Pacific Invitational runs from Wednesday, January 8 to Friday, January 10 in the Honolulu area, with a three-day training camp covering the days before competition. The swimming events will take place on Thursday the 9th at Iolani High School.
