Virginia Picks Up In-State Verbal From Breaststroker Jared Norton

Jared Norton recently announced that he has committed to swim for the University of Virginia. Norton is a talented breaststroker and is choosing to remain in-state with his commitment to UVA.

Yannick Kaeser led UVA’s breaststroke group last season, but he and two other seniors will be graduating this year. Coach Augie Busch will need to reload his breaststroke group for next year to remain competitive within the conference. He did bring in a few freshman breaststrokers for this season in Alex Albracht, Zach Fong, and Murat Yildirim.

Norton has made huge improvements over the last few year and looks to be a strong addition to the Virginia program. Since 2013, he has dropped from a 1:01.8 in the 100 breaststroke to a 55.98. His 200 breaststroke is very similar, dropping from a 2:11 to a 2:01 over the last two years.

Norton’s best times in yards:

  • 100 Breast – 55.98
  • 200 Breast – 2:01.78
  • 200 IM – 1:51.83
  • 400 IM – 3:59.74

Norton swims for the Coast Guard Blue Dolphins in Yorktown. He will be moving roughly two hours away from his hometown of Newport News, VA to join the Cavaliers in Charlottesville. He will graduate from Hampton Roads Academy this year and be a member of the Virginia class of 2020.
