Quakers Women’s and Men’s Teams Announce 2015-16 Season Schedule

The following is a press release from University of Pennsylvania Athletic Communications

PHILADELPHIA – With the beginning of the school year just around the corner, the University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs have announced their 2015-16 schedules. This year’s slates will look familiar as both squads will once again compete in three Ivy League tri-meets as they did a year ago, along with the Total Performance Invitational and the ECAC Championships. The non-conference schedule for both teams will include dual meets with UMBC, Villanova, La Salle and West Chester.

The women will get things started in 2015-16, wasting no time in beginning their Ivy League campaign. The Quakers will begin the season by hitting the road to take on Columbia on November 6. Following the opening-night matchup with the Lions, the Quakers will join the men’s squad for a combined meet the following day at UMBC.

The men will begin Ivy League competition the following weekend by welcoming Columbia to Sheerr Pool on November 13. The second combined meet of the year comes on November 14 as both teams will take the short trip to Villanova for a matchup with the Wildcats.

The first tri-meet of the season for both the men and the women will come on November 20 when the Quakers travel to Princeton to take on Cornell and the host Tigers.

In what has become a yearly tradition, Penn will close out the calendar year by competing in the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College. Both Quakers’ squads are coming off first place finishes in 2014.

Following the New Year, the Red and Blue will endure a pivotal stretch of the season with back-to-back conference tri-meets to begin 2016. First up, both the men and the women will host Dartmouth and Yale at Sheerr Pool on January 9. They will then travel to Harvard the following weekend for a meet with Brown.

Both programs will wrap up the regular season with home meets against West Chester and La Salle on January 29 and 30, respectively.  The men and women were both victorious against the Explorers and Rams last season.

Following some time off after the regular season, the 2016 Ivy League Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship Meets will be held on the campus of Princeton University February 18-20. The men will take to the pool for the conference championships February 25-27 at Brown. Both teams finished fourth at last year’s Ancient Eight Championships.

This year’s ECAC Championships will be held February 26-28 at Lejeune Hall on the campus of Navy. The Quakers competed in last season’s ECAC Championships, returning to the event for the first time since 2009-10.

The 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 17-19 on the women’s side and March 24-26 for the men. Seniors Eric Schultz and Chris Swanson competed in last year’s championships – marking the first time since 1971 that more than one athlete from the men’s program qualified for NCAA events.
