Sarah Giamber of the Marlins of Raleigh and Middle Creek High School in Apex, North Carolina has given her verbal commitment to the University of Pittsburgh for the 2016-17 season. Giamber is a mid-distance/distance freestyle who also has significant IM potential to bring to the Panther squad next year.
Giamber came in 3rd in the 500y freestyle and 10th in the 200y freestyle at the 2014-15 North Carolina State High School Championships and also fared well in long course this past summer at the 2015 Futures Meet in Greensboro, NC. While in Greensboro, Giamber took on a full schedule of 7 events, which rendered 3 top 20 finishes, as well as a first-place prize as part of her squad’s 800m freestyle relay. Giamber also swam her way into a 3rd place finish in the 400m IM and as part of her team’s 400m freestyle relay.
Below are Giamber’s best times:
SCY
200 free 1:52.52
500 free 4:53.82
1650 free 16:41.63
400 IM 4:24.22
LCM
200 free 2:07.52
400 free 4:23.91
800 free 9:07.43
1500 free 17:18.56
400 IM 4:58.13
Giamber’s 1650y freestyle time would have garnered her a 13th place finish at the 2015 ACC Conference championships, where the highest Pitt finisher was then-junior Kaleigh Ritter’s 3rd place time of 16:14.31. Giamber has the potential to fill the void left once Ritter graduates after this year.
