Wisco Sprinter Mary Warren Verbally Commits to Northwestern

Mary Warren, from Hartland Wisconsin, just outside of Milwaukee, has verbally committed to Northwestern University in Chicago. Though Northwestern is across a state line, it’s under a two hour drive from her home, so this is not a big move for her.

“Northwestern had everything I was looking for,” Warren said today via email. “The coach and the team run a fantastic program and I felt at home right when I walked on campus. The high level of school spirit that I saw was a huge part of my decision. I promised myself I would go to a campus where everyone shared the same passion for school spirit as much as I do. That’s why I chose Northwestern!”

It is, however, a big move for Northwestern. As a junior, Warren anchored a pair of State Champion relays for Arrowhead High School a the Wisconsin High School State Championship meet, and took 3rd in both the 50 and 100 freestyles.

Aside: that 50 free was won by a freshman named Beata Nelson in a State Record; she’s got a bright future.

In yards, Warren has been 22.98 in the 50 free in yards and 26.85 in long course. Those are her only Juniors cuts, but they’re good enough to be very exciting for the Wildcats.

She’s also been 51.37 in the 100 yard free and 1:52.31 in the 200 yard free.

But as the Lake Country Swim Team senior continues to mature, the Wildcats will hope she improves in those other events as well. They will make good use of the immediate help, however: they graduated by far their best sprinter and NCAA qualifier Taylor Reynolds at the end of last season. They brought in a great freshman sprint class, though, and Warren should roll into that group well next season.
