Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Carly Mauldin, a two-time Winter Juniors qualifier, has announced that she will continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Houston, beginning with the 2026-2027 season. She shared her commitment on SwimCloud:
I am incredibly blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at The University of Houston! I am so excited for this next chapter and the opportunity to continue to swim at the next level. I want to thank God first, above all, and all of my coaches-past, present, and future-for believing in me, as well as my amazing teammates for the endless support! Incredibly blessed to call Houston home for the next 4! Go COUGARS!!!
Mauldin is currently a senior at Johnson High School in San Antonio, Texas, where she has been a member of the varsity swimming and diving team since her freshman year. Beyond the high school season, she trains with the local Alamo Area Aquatic Association.
The future Cougar is a middle-distance specialist, strong across the 200 and 500 freestyle, 200 backstroke, and 200 butterfly. She’s on a strong improvement curve, having dropped time in most of her primary events each of the past few years. In the past 12 months, she’s gone from 1:52.45 to 1:51.03 in the 200 free and from 2:04.43 to 2:03.90 in the 200 back. Her 500 free (4:56.67) and 200 fly (2:04.78) personal bests were set in 2024, but they were no fluke. She’s since registered a 4:56 and four 4:57 swims in the 500 free, and has been within a second of her 200 fly best in 2025.
Mauldin has qualified for the University Interscholastic League 6A High School State Championships in both her sophomore and junior years, making one ‘A’ final and two ‘B’ finals throughout her career. Last year, she touched sixth in the 500 free (4:57.86) and 13th in the 200 free (1:52.46). As a sophomore, she came ninth in the 500 free, setting her current personal best, and just missed out on the ‘B’ final in the 200 free (1:52.65), placing 18th.
She most recently competed at Winter Juniors, placing 52nd in the 200 free (1:52.10), 53rd in the 200 fly (2:05.61), and 67th in the 500 free (5:00.57), all of which were season bests. This marked her third appearance at the meet; her highest-ever finish was 40th in the 500 free in 2024, when she produced her only other 4:56 in the 500 free.
Top SCY Times:
- 200 Freestyle: 1:51.03
- 500 Freestyle: 4:56.67
- 200 Backstroke: 2:03.90
- 200 Butterfly: 2:04.78
The University of Houston is a Division I mid-major program that competes in the Big 12 Conference. Under the direction of head coach Tanica Jamison, the Cougars finished third out of 10 teams at the 2025 conference meet. At that competition, it took times of 1:49.72 in the 200 free, 4:56.33 in the 500 free, 1:59.84 in the 200 back, and 2:02.76 in the 200 fly to make the ‘C’ finals, meaning Mauldin is just a few tenths shy of scoring range in the 500 free.
Mauldin will add depth to Houston’s middle-distance crew, as her best 200 back would have been eighth on the team last season, while her 200 fly, 500 free, and 200 free would have ranked ninth, 10th, and 12th, respectively. With eight months to improve and several upperclassmen graduating, she’ll provide assistance in dual meets and could become a key scorer on the Cougars’ ACC roster if she continues dropping time.
Joining Mauldin as the only other publicized recruit in the Cougars’ class of 2030 is Australian sprinter Dominika Kralka.
