William Mulgrew on Racing Bobby Finke: “I really saw firsthand what he can do that final 50”

2026 Pro Swim Series – Indianapolis

William Mulgrew continued to make a name for himself in the American distance ranks, once again going head-to-head with Bobby Finke and coming out on top. At the Ft Lauderdale Open in April, Mulgrew took wins in both the 800 and 1500 over Finke. In Indianapolis, it looked like it would be more of the same, as Mulgrew started the meet by winning the 1500 (15:07.68).

However, Finke had other plans. In the 800 this time around, swimming a gritty race and staying with Mulgrew until the final 50, when Finke did what he does best and blasted his way to a win, 7:56.2 to Mulgrew’s 7:56.5. Still, the rising Harvard sophomore has accomplished some pretty major things in the distance realm this spring, building excitement for what he can do come the end of the summer.
