WATCH: LA2024 Legendary Venues StubHub Center with Cobi Jones

Take a look at LA’s StubHub Center with Cobi Jones, an Olympian who represented Team USA in Barcelona in 1992.

Jones, who grew up in southern California, reflects on his early career and the role the StubHub Center played in his journey from amateur, to professional, to coach.  In the video Jones considers his many appearances at the StubHub Center and the potential it has as an Olympic venue.  Citing the atmosphere of the stadium, Jones describes the roles fans play in egging on their favorite–or opposition–teams and players.  When the StubHub Center is full, “it’s intimate,” states Jones.

Jones, who played “winger” with the Los Angeles Galaxy from 1996-2007, reminisces on the ability to hear fans as he passed along the sidelines of the field.  Though he tried to ignore them and focus on the game, being that close to the patrons gave Jones a feeling of “interacting” with those that paid to see him perform, no matter which team they were cheering for.

Earlier this week LA2024 released a video profiling the Staples Center with special guest star Kobe Bryant.  Unlike most Olympic bids, LA2024 aims to build no new infrastructure and instead use only existing venues, including the dorms at UCLA, which would be converted into a temporary Olympic Village, during the 2024 Summer Games.

LA and Paris will continue promoting their cities as potential Olympic hosts until September 13th when the IOC will vote to decide which city will get the honor of hosting the 2024 Games.  The summit is to be held in Lima, Peru.
