As SwimSwam reported yesterday, ASU swept both the men’s and women’s team titles at the meet, which welcomed Arizona, BYU, Kansas, and Utah to Tempe. Houston simultaneously hosted the Big 12 East Showdown with West Virginia, Iowa State, TCU, and Cincinnati. Both meets served as tune-ups ahead of the Big 12 Championships, scheduled for February 24-28 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The competition used a unique format with heats pre-determined as timed finals, with two swimmers per team in each heat. Scoring followed NCAA-style heat-based rules, where placement is determined by which heat a swimmer competed in. This means an athlete who posted a fast time in a ‘B’ heat could only place behind all swimmers in the ‘A’ heat, regardless of their actual time.
