WATCH: Grant Shoults Break National HS Records in 200/500 Frees

CIF-SS DIVISION 1 SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Saturday in Riverside, California, St. Margarita senior Grant Shoults broke the National High School Records in both the 200 and 500 yard freestyles.

First, he swam a 1:33.26 in the 200 yard free, and not long after, he swam a 4:12.87 in the 500 free, both of which got him under the National Records in the respective events.

Shoulds is committed to swim for Stanford University in the fall, but first will contest the 2016 Olympic Trials. Last season, he ranked 6th among Americans in the 200 free thanks to a 1:48.10 relay leadoff at the Junior World Championships; and 6th in the 400 free with an individual 3:48.91 at the same meet. The top 6 are expected to go to Rio in the 200 free, and the top 2 will be eligible for the Olympics this summer in the 400 free.

Below, watch videos of both races, courtesy of his father Scott Shoults:
