Villanova Secures Commitment from NOVA’s Emily Provenzo

Glen Allen, Virginia’s Emily Provenzo verbally committed to swim at Villanova University beginning in the fall of 2017.

“I chose Villanova for its rigorous academics and the team. I can’t wait to swim under Coach Simpson and the rest of the coaches. As soon as I stepped on campus, I knew this was the place I wanted to spend the next four years!! I can hardly wait to be a Wildcat! I also wanted to thank my family, coaches, and friends for their endless support throughout this whole process!”

Provenzo swims year-round for NOVA of Virginia Aquatics under Geoff Brown. A senior at Saint Gertrude High School in Richmond, she swam at the 2016 VISAA State Championships and placed second in the 500 free, earning All-State honors. She also paced the Saint Gertrude 400 free relay to a second-place finish and made the 2016 All Metro Swim Team in the 200 fly.

A NCSA Summer Juniors finalist in the 400 free (D final), 200 fly (E final) and 400 IM (E final), her top SCY times are:

  • 400 IM: 4:21.74
  • 200 IM: 2:05.95
  • 200 free: 1:50.66
  • 100 fly: 56.92
  • 200 fly: 2:02.30
  • 200 back: 2:03.32

Provenzo brings excellent scoring potential to the Wildcats. She would have won the 400 IM at 2016 Big East Championships by just a tick, and would have been an A-finalist in the 200 IM, 200 free, 200 fly, and 200 back; she would have been a B-finalist in the 100 fly.
