USC Women Hold No. 1 Spot In CWPA Week 11 Polls

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of Southern California remains the top-ranked team in women’s water polo as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2021 Week 11/April 21 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 5, CWPA Top 4 and CWPA Division III Top 5 Polls.

The University of Michigan, Austin College and California Lutheran University maintain top billing in the CWPA Division I Top Four, CWPA Division III Top Five and Division III Top Five Polls, respectively.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season.

2021 WOMEN’S VARSITY NATIONAL TOP 25 (WEEK 11/APRIL 21)

The University of Southern California stays at No. 1 in the Week 11/April 21 Women’s Varsity Top 25 Poll.

USC (100 points) retains its status as a unanimous No. 1 pick, while Stanford University (96 points), the University of California-Los Angeles (92 points), the University of California (88 points), Arizona State University (84 points) and the University of Hawaii (79 points) continue at No. 2-to-6, respectively.

The first change comes at No. 7 as the University of Michigan (74 points) pulls even with the University of California-Irvine (74 points).  The University of California-Davis (66 points) jumps in front of the University of California-San Diego (64 points) as the Aggies and Tritons trade the No. 9 and 10 spots.

Fresno State University (61 points) and University of the Pacific (56 points) stay at No. 11 and 12, respectively, while Indiana University (49 points) and San Diego State University (49 points) stand in a tie at No. 13.

Long Beach State University (47 points), San Jose State University (42 points), California Baptist University (35 points), Loyola Marymount University (31 points), Azusa Pacific University (27 points) and Bucknell University (20 points) remain at No. 15-to-20, respectively, with Santa Clara University (18 points) and Marist College (16 points) exchanging the No. 21 and 22 spots.

La Salle University (9 points) moves up to No. 23 with Long Island University (6 points) and Iona College (5 points) completing the Top 25.

2021 WOMEN’S VARSITY DIVISION III TOP 5 (WEEK 5/APRIL 21)

California Lutheran University retains its ranking at No. 1 in the Week 5/April 21 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 5 Poll.

The Division III rankings are unique for 2021 as Cal Lutheran, Chapman University and the University of Redlands of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) elected to compete, while the California Institute of TechnologyClaremont-Mudd-Scripps CollegesOccidental College, the University of La VernePomona-Pitzer Colleges and Whittier College are taking off the season due to the pandemic.  In the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), Connecticut CollegeMacalester CollegeUtica College and Washington & Jefferson College are competing in minimal schedules and Monmouth College is taking off the season prior to eliminating women’s water polo following the 2020-21 academic year. Austin CollegeCarthage CollegeGrove City CollegePenn State Behrend and Wittenberg University will contest full CWPA Division III league seasons.

Due to the number of teams competing, the normally Division III Top 10 poll was cut down to five teams to maintain proportionality between the number of competing programs and national ranking size.

Cal Lutheran (97 points) hangs on at No. 1 for another seven-day run, while Austin (95 points) – which claimed the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship over the weekend – acquires sole possession of No. 2.

Redlands (91 points), Chapman (70 points) and Macalester (49 points) complete the Top Five.

2021 WOMEN’S VARSITY COLLEGIATE WATER POLO ASSOCIATION TOP 4 (WEEK 11/APRIL 21)

Four-time defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion the University of Michigan remains the top team in the league as the Wolverines lead the 2021 CWPA Division I Week 11/April 21 Top Four Poll as a unanimous No. 1 selection.

The 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 league champion, Michigan (100 points) holds a five point lead over runner-up Bucknell University (95 points).

Saint Francis University (90 points) and first-year varsity program Mount St. Mary’s University (85 points) complete the Top 4.

2021 WOMEN’S VARSITY COLLEGIATE WATER POLO ASSOCIATION DIVISION III TOP 5 (WEEK 6/APRIL 21/FINAL)

2021 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III champion Austin College maintains its preseason, Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4 and Week 5 ranking as the Kangaroos complete the year at No. 1 in the Week 6/April 21/Final CWPA Division III Top 5 Poll.

The ‘Roos (100 points) complete the season as a unanimous No. 1 pick after downing Wittenberg University, 20-6, in the 2021 CWPA Division III title game over the weekend at Carthage College in Kenosha Wisconsin.  Wittenberg (91 points) stays at No. 2 with Macalester College (75 points) – which did not compete at the CWPA Division III Championship – remains at No. 3.

Penn State Behrend (68 points) and Grove City College (49 points) complete the Top Five.
