US Paralympics Names 25 to Team for IPC World Championships

The United States Paralympic Committee has announced a 25-swimmer roster that will travel to Montreal, Canada for the 2013 IPC World Swimming Championships from August 11th-17th.

This roster was chosen from the World Championship Trials that took place two weeks ago in Minneapolis. There are some familiar faces, including Paralympic Champions and swimming stars like Justin ZookVictoria Arlen, and Jessica Long.  Also on the team are swimmers like Cortney Jordan and Alyssa Gialamas; Gialamas comes from the same high school that produced Kevin Cordes.

Ian Silverman will also make the trip across the border, after breaking two World Records at the CanAm meet. He’ll be joined by Kayla Wheeler, who broke two World Records of her own.

The most notable absence from the team is Mallory Weggemann; she’s the defending Paralympic Champion in the S8 50 free, and at the last edition of the World Championships in 2010 won 8 golds and 1 silver medal.

In total, 10 of the 25 members of this team have never made a Paralympic Team: the pinnacle of the sport.
