BALTIMORE — Junior Ember Stennett won both the one meter and three meter diving competitions, qualifying for NCAA Zones in the latter, as the host UMBC Women’s Swimming & Diving teams defeated both Howard (173-122) and VMI (227-72) on Saturday.
Stennett’s dive three meter dive of 280.20 qualified her for NCAA Zones, while her one meter dive of 217.55 was just enough to edge teammate Alicia Buteau (217.25) to take gold. Isabella Evers took third in the three meter and fourth in the one meter, while Samantha Rhee took fourth in the three meter.
Alice Marini won all three individual events she competed in, taking home the gold in the 200 fly (2:09.06), 200 back (2:04.80) and 200 IM (2:09.54). She also was on the second lace finishing 200 medley relay team along with Lea Kaiser, Nicol Davanzo and Erma Duratovic.
Duratovic also won both of her individual events, finishing first in the 100 fly (57.47) and the 50 free (24.43). She was also on the silver-winning 400 free relay team along with Bruna de Padua, Claire Oettinger and Evie Grim.
Kolby Reese and de Padua went 1-2 in the 1000 free, with Reese winning by over five seconds in a time of 10:50.38. Ula Parrill, Shannyn Lambert and Daphné Melis took the top three spots in the 200 breaststroke, while de Padua was just outtouched at the wall and finished second in the 500 free.
Davanzo finished second behind Marini in the 200 fly and was third in the 100 fly, while Oettinger took second in the 100 free. Breanna Smith and Karli Atwood finished second and third behind Marini in the 200 IM.
The Retrievers have next weekend off before returning to the pool for the Bucknell Invite, November 21-23.
BALTIMORE – The host UMBC Men’s Swimming & Diving team swept the podium in both diving events and won eight of the swim events en route to victories over Howard (221-78) and VMI (188-111) on Saturday.
Anders Logas won both diving competitions as the Retrievers took the top four spots in the one meter and the top three in the three meter. In the one meter, Logas won with a score of 282.90 and was followed by Kaleb Cave, Aidan O’Callaghan and Grant Moore. A score of 282.05 won Logas the three meter with Moore and Cave taking second and third.
Freshman Quinn Marchionini won both 100 (50.96) and 200 back (1:54.09) and was the first leg on the winning 200 medley relay team, along with Elliot Fielder, Stefano Perez and Sean Neils. Matthew So and Marchionini went 2-3 in the 100 fly later in the meet.
Fielder won both the 100 (58.51) and the 200 breaststroke (2:08.74), while Neils won the free in a time of 46.07. Andrew McEachern (1:42.47) and Felipe Taveira Lira went 1-2 in the 200 free, and Taveira Lira went on to win the 200 IM in 1:56.17.
Nick Bracall finished second behind Marchionini in both backstroke events, while Neils took second in the 50 free. Nick Zaharescu, McEachern and Christian Castro went 2-4 in the 500 free, and Matthew Rotunda finished third in the 200 breaststroke for the Retrievers.
The 400 relay team of Neils, McEachern, Perez and So was just outtouched at the wall and finished in second to conclude the meet.
The Retrievers have next weekend off before returning to the pool for the Bucknell Invite, November 21-23.

BALTIMORE, Md. – Howard women’s swimming and diving team turned in another strong showing at the UMBC Tri-Meet on Saturday, recording six event victories and several personal bests against the host Retrievers and VMI.
The Bison opened the afternoon with a dominant performance in the 200-yard medley relay, where the quartet of Chanice Posada (Houston, Texas), Rhanishka Gibbs (Nassau, Bahamas), Summer McKoy (Pikesville, Md.), and Zuzu Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) took first place in 1:46.72, setting the tone early for the meet.
Nwaeze continued her stellar form with a pair of individual victories, capturing the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.88) and 100-yard freestyle (52.94). Freshman Alyssa Napier (Wilmington, Del.) followed closely in the 200 free, finishing second with a season-best 1:56.28.
Posada added another win for Howard in the 100-yard backstroke (57.20), leading a 1-2 Bison finish as McKoy took second and posted a new personal best (59.53). Gibbs also earned top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.33) — a new season best, surpassing her previous mark of 1:05.86.
Howard closed the meet on a high note, claiming the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:34.52, thanks to the efforts of Napier, McKoy, Gabrielle Vickles (El Dorado, Trinidad & Tobago), and Nwaeze.
Additional standout performances included Vickles’ second-place finish in the 50 free (24.46) and Posada’s runner-up showing in the 200 backstroke (2:07.45). Napier also notched another personal best in the 100 butterfly (57.65) to place second.
The Bison return to the pool on Friday, November 14th at 2 PM when they travel to Emmitsburg, MD to face Mount St. Mary’s.
BALTIMORE, Md. – Howard men’s swimming and diving team put together a series of strong individual efforts at Saturday’s UMBC Tri-Meet, highlighted by junior Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), who swept the butterfly events with two standout performances.
Green dominated the 200-yard butterfly, winning in 1:54.08 and setting a new season best by nearly four-tenths of a second. Later in the meet, he completed the sweep by claiming first in the 100-yard butterfly (49.77), pacing a deep Bison field.
Freshman Solomon Goins (Dallas, Texas) made an immediate impact in his first 200 fly race of the season, finishing second in 1:55.00, just behind Green, in an event debut that showcased his potential.
Additional strong performances came from veterans Taj Benton (Baltimore, Md.), Jalen Stewart (New Castle, Del.), and Darien Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.), who contributed valuable points in sprint and relay events. The Bison also received key efforts on the boards from Kai Lawson (Bethesda, Md.) and Trevor Sewell (Decatur, Ga.) in the diving competition.
The Bison return to the pool on Friday, November 14th at 2 PM when they travel to Emmitsburg, MD to face Mount St. Mary’s.

BALTIMORE, Md. – VMI Women’s Swimming & Diving wrapped up its outing against UMBC and Howard Saturday afternoon at the UMBC Aquatic Complex.
The Keydets had five podium finishes in their losses to UMBC (227-72) and Howard (194-101).
Freshman Carissa Witte posted a victory in the 500 Free (5:15.33). Witte also scored third in the 200 Fly (2:14.36).
On the boards, sophomore Isabelle Haer shined with a pair of podium marks, tallying a second-place finish in the three-meter with 228.30 points along with third place in the one-meter with 215.70 points.
Also making it on the podium was senior Noelle Tong, earning third in the 50 Free (25.09). The 400 Free Relay team with Tong, Witte, Mackenzie Byrne, and Lacy Delzell also finished third (3:40.56).

The Keydets return to Goodall Pool for the Keydet Invite. The invite will include eight teams and runs November 14-16 with prelims starting at 10:30 a.m. and finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. each day.
BALTIMORE, Md. – VMI Men’s Swimming & Diving picked up a win in Saturday’s tri-meet at the UMBC Aquatic Complex
The Keydets came out of Baltimore with a loss to UMBC (188-111) and a win over Howard (201-98). VMI had 15 podium finishes with four first-place marks.
Sophomore Stephen Russell builds on his already impressive resume with two victories, one in the 500 Free (4:42.91) and the 1,000 Free (9:56.03). This gives Russell his fifth and sixth first-place marks of the season. He would go on to score second in the 200 IM (1:57.13).
Also producing a first-place mark was freshman Ian Lutz in the 50 Free (21.29), his second-straight 50 Free win. Lutz would later tab third in the 100 Free (47:15).
Junior Austin Reeder added points for the Keydets by earning second in the 100 Breast (58.85) and 200 Breast (2:10.64). Junior Sam Castle boasted a third-place finish in the 100 Back (53.04) and 200 Back (1:56.55). Junior Matthew Picard nabbed second in the 100 Free (46.35) and third in the 50 Free (21.50).
Sophomore Jack Mills scored third in the 200 IM (1:57.41), while sophomore Kayleb Eldridge swam to third place in the 200 Fly (1:55.59).
The 400 Free Relay team with Picard, Sam Calder, Castle, and Lutz claimed first (3:06.40), while the 200 Medley Relay team with Castle, Picard, Lutz, and Layne Tucker earned second place (1:33.19).
