UMass Women, St. Bonaventure Men Earn Wins At Colgate Invitational

HAMILTON, N.Y.  The University of Massachusetts women’s swimming and diving team recorded nine top-three finishes, including three wins as they wrapped up the first weekend of competition at the Colgate Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen finished second in the team scoring with a mark of 1049.

Emma Petrovich led the Minutewomen to a one-two finish in the 3-meter Dive, posting a top-score of 240.80 while teammate Beth Luther finished as the runner-up with a score of 235.95.

Megan Mitchell grabbed her second win of the weekend with a top-time of 2:06.04 to lead three Minutewomen in the top-four of the 200 Back. Lauren Stott claimed the runner-up spot with a time of 2:08.28 while Bri Williams came in fourth.

Anna Kwon added a win for UMass in the 200 IM, clocking in a top-time of 2:10.95 with Jane Denenberg finishing in fifth. Denenberg led four Minutewomen in the top-10 of the 500 Free, coming in second with a swim of 5:13.59 while Bella Snyder finished right behind in fourth with a time of 5:13.60. Kelly Malyszka and Dylan Chen finished inside the top-10.

Olivia Mozoki picked up a third-place finish in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:03.73 with Mia Flagiello rounding out the top-five finishers. Caroline Desmond led UMass in the 100 Free with a time of 53.76 to take fifth while Caroline Mahoney and Kelsey Cordery finished top-nine.

UMass wrapped up the day with a runner-up finish in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:36.31 put together by Desmond, Kirsten Ardis, Cordery and Mahoney.

The Minutewomen return to the pool for competition on Saturday, Oct. 30 against Boston University at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men’s swimming and diving team captured its first victory of the season at the Colgate Invitational.

After two days of competition, St. Bonaventure was victorious over the University of Massachusetts and host Colgate after posting 1,112 team points. UMass was second (1,049) and host Colgate third (354).

The Bonnies were able to capture their first event victory of the day in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:22.22. Maciej DanilewskiKnute WarginJake Ruffolo and Alec Thomas all contributed to the win.

Freshman diver Zyad Morsy picked up his first two collegiate event wins with a score of 305.15 in the 1-meter dive and a score 337.50 in the 3-meter dive. Sophomore Lucas Dekaney received a score of 293.40 to place second in the 3-meter dive.

The third event victory for the Bonnies came from senior Alec Thomas in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.43.

Danilewski touched the wall in a time of 50.99 to win the 100-yard backstroke for Bonaventure.

St. Bonaventure was able to take top three in the 50-yard freestyle. Sophomore Kyle Gluck placed first in the event with a time of 21.32 while senior William Lowe (21.91) placed second and Thomas (21.93) placed third.

Thomas would capture another event victory for the Bonnies by finishing with a time of 46.94 in the 100-yard freestyle while senior Jake Ruffolo (48.11) placed second in the event.

Freshman Alexander Behr picked up his first collegiate victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.52.

The Bonnies ended the two-day invitational with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay finishing with a time of 3:09.23 from Ruffolo, Danilewski, Thomas and Kyle Gluck.

The men will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 30 when they will compete in the Atlantic 10 Invitational hosted by Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
