UIC Hires Mike Tubb as New Assistant Coach

CHICAGO – UIC head men’s and women’s swimming & diving coach Tim Loeffler announced on Tuesday the addition of Mike Tubb as the new assistant coach. Tubb was a student-athlete at Rider before serving as an assistant coach at Rowan and returning to his alma mater as a volunteer assistant.

“Mike is the perfect fit for this program,” said Loeffler. “He has a passion for the sport of swimming that shines when he’s on deck. With his collegiate coaching experience combined with his time as an Academic Advisor and a Division I student-athlete, Mike will be a major factor in the building of the program. We are excited to have him as a part of the UIC swimming & diving family.”

“I am thrilled to be joining the UIC athletic department, and specifically the swimming & diving staff,” Tubb said. “I look forward to working with Coach Loeffler. He has a vision for the current athletes on the team and for the future of the program that you cannot help but get excited about. In getting to know the athletes on the team, I hope to help them reach the goals that they have set for themselves both in and out of the water.”

Tubb was a letterwinner for Rider from 2007-12 and helped lead the Broncs to their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship since 2004 while serving as the team’s captain in his final two seasons. Tubb holds place in the record book with the fifth-best time in the 100 breast and sixth-best time in the 200 breast, while he is a member of the 200 and 400 medley relay record-holding teams.

After graduating from Rider, Tubb began his coaching career at Division III Rowan, where he served as the assistant coach. Tubb helped RU to a second-place finish in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and a fourth-place finish at the Metropolitan Swimming Championships.

Tubb returned to Rider as the team’s volunteer assistant coach for the 2013-14 season, when the men’s team won its third-consecutive MAAC Championship and the women’s team collected a second-place finish for the fourth year in a row.

Tubb received his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and Social Studies in addition to his master’s degree in Education Administration from Rider.

The above is a press release submitted by UIC.
