The Aggies of UC Davis had no troubles in their dominating win against the BYU Cougars, contrary to the final score of 149-140 in favor of UC Davis. That’s because the Aggies were so hot that, after they won 10th event, they swam exhibition for the remainder of the meet. Despite being in exhibition, they won the remainder of the swimming events to make them perfect against BYU.

While UC Davis cruised to relatively easy wins in the 200 medley and free relay, BYU made it very close in a couple events. Hailey Ferko of UC Davis finished just ahead of Cougar sophomore Riley Buer in the 100 breast, finishing in 1:06.29 to Buer’s 1:06.85. Buer came up just short again in the 200 breast, this time to Aggie sophomore Elise Roberts, who finished third in the 100 breast earlier behind Ferko and Buer. Only a tenth separated the two sophomores at the finish, but it was Roberts who came out on top with a winning time of 2:22.08.

The Aggies were led by strong performances by senior Hilary Hunt and freshman Courtney Shultz. The duo was a force to be reckoned with on both of UC Davis’ victorious 200 relays, with Shultz anchoring the medley in 23.84 and Hunt providing a quick spark on the 200 free relay (23.59). They each took home two individual wins, as well. Hunt took the 100 and 200 backstrokes in 57.16 and 2:04.25, respectively, while Shultz owned the splash-and-dash 50 and 100 free races in 24.28 and 52.79, respectively.

BYU was able to get an individual win in a non-swimming event, as their divers went 1-2-3 in 3-meter diving.

Both teams’ divers will head to the Arizona Diving Invite next weekend, while the swimmers will meet again at the Texas Invitational, which starts December 4th.
