Towson Earns Fourth Win, Defeats ODU

The Towson University men’s swimming and diving team earned its fourth victorry of the season on Saturday, defeating the Old Dominion Monarchs 163.50-128.50 at Burdick Pool. With the win, Towson (4-1 overall) has posted its most wins in a season since the 2006-07 year, when the team went 6-5.

“Our guys know if they want to be in a meet, they have to race and work hard,” Towson Head Coach Pat Meadsaid. “It was a total team effort today, and our freshmen are really making a huge impact for us.”

In the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events, Tiger freshmen Matt BrintonNick Breschi and Tim Schade were the top three finishers for Towson. Brinton won the 100-yard backstroke in 52.00, while Breschi was not far behind in 52.48. Schade was fourth in 53.95.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Schade won the event in 1:53.54, Brinton was second and Breschi third.

Brinton helped the Tigers start the meet on the right foot, combining with classmate Jeremy LiuZach Brech andMatt Hans to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:34.06 in the first event of the meet.

Towson’s Matt Lowe contributed to the victory with wins in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,000-yard freestyle events.

The Tigers next travel to George Mason for a meet against the Patriots and the College of Charleston beginning onNovember 1.

TOWSON WOMEN

The Towson University women’s swimming and diving team remained undefeated this season by defeating the Old Dominion Monarchs 199-101 on Saturday at Burdick Pool. Towson (5-0) has now won its first five meets in each of the past six seasons dating back to the 2008-09 year.

“They did a great job again today,” Towson Head Coach Pat Mead said. “Our veteran consistency is very exciting. I still think there are areas for improvement, but again, we are seeing progress.”

Sophomore Jenna Van Camp was impressive for Towson, winning the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.14.

Seniors Kaitlin Burke and Melanie Rowland also performed well, each winning events. Burke took first place in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.03, while Rowland won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:05.19.

The Tigers’ Victoria Oslund won a pair of events against the Monarchs, recording victories in the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley.

The Tigers next travel to George Mason for a meet against the Patriots and the College of Charleston beginning onNovember 1.
