MALIBU, California – Three freshmen – Charli SunaharaAmanda Wong and AJ Adams – of the Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team were named Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference athletes of the week for the past two weeks as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Sunahara (Chino, Calif./Ruben S. Ayala HS) took first among Division I opponents in a pair of events at the Rodionoff Invitational, pacing the field in the 200 IM (2:11.64) and the 200 breast (2:26.17). She also helped the Waves take first in the 200 medley relay while recording second-place finishes in the 400 medley relay and the 100 breast (1:06.55). The freshman also claimed first place in the 100 IM against San Diego State with a 1:00.99 showing.

Wong (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill HS) made her Pepperdine debut against San Diego State on October 6, recording a third-place finish in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 226.58. That weekend, hosting the Rodionoff Invitational, the freshman had the highest score among Division I opponents in the 3-meter competition with a score of 232.65. In the 1-meter portion the next day, she took fourth in the D-I field with a 226.25 score for a weekly average of 228.49.

Helping the Waves to a pair of dual wins over PCSC rival Cal State East Bay this past weekend, Adams (Castle Rock, Colo./Valor Christian HS) was part of the winning 800 free relay after a 1:57.07 split, the second-fastest time of the season in that event so far. The freshman followed up that performance with three individual wins on Saturday in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM.

These are the first career weekly honors for the trio, and the first three weekly awards for Pepperdine this season.

Pepperdine travels to San Jose State for a 1 p.m. meet on Friday, October 21. On Saturday, the Waves will face Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo at 11 a.m.
