The news can be pretty bleak at times these days — and with cancelled swim meets, closed pools and postponed meets it’s really nice to see SwimOutlet.com doing something to raise people’s spirits.
The folks at SwimOutlet just launched a cool mobile phone campaign this week in which they had a group of Olympians and top swimmers record inspirational messages for swimmers and the swim community that are delivered right to your cell phone via SMS.
Just text SWIMSPIRATION to 48423 and you’ll get the option to hear from seven different Olympians and gold medal-winners including Missy Franklin, Ryan Murphy, Lia Neal, Jacob Pebley, Cammile Adams, Jason Lezak and Maggie Steffens.
I loved hearing Ryan Murphy talking about supporting the medical community and Jason Lezak talking about the importance of teamwork and coming together during this time (think relay!). Elite swimmers are good at knowing how to take care of themselves and several of them focus on that particular message: stay healthy, eat well and get a good night’s sleep.
While SwimOutlet.com isn’t in the business of PSAs, the messages certainly feel like that with their positive vibes — and the athletes in our sport are uniquely positioned being such excellent role models and sportspeople that they are. It’s great to see them support with their uplifting thoughts.
It’s definitely true what everyone is saying — we’ll all get through this together — and it never hurts to get a little support from an Olympian, too!
