Texas Women Score Second Top 10 Verbal Commitment for 2027 from #3 Sadie Buckley

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sadie Buckley, a junior at Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia, has made a verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Texas beginning in the 2027-28 school year.

“I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Texas, Austin!  I’d like to thank my family, Coach Pete, and teammates at NCAP for their endless support.  A special thank you to Coach Carol, Coach Mitch, and the entire coaching staff at Texas.  I am so grateful for this incredible opportunity and I can’t wait to be a Longhorn! HOOK EM!! 🧡🤘”

The Longhorns have also earned a verbal commitment from #8 Daisy Collins for the fall of 2027.

Buckley swims year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club. She is the #3 recruit on our Way Too Early list of top girls swimmers in the high school class of 2027, with the second-fastest times in the cohort for the 200 back (1:51.99), 200 IM (1:56.45) and 400 IM (4:07.87). Her times in all three events would have qualified for last year’s NCAA Division I Women’s Championships. Buckley also has Summer Nationals standards in the 200/500 free and Summer Juniors cuts in the 100 back and 100/200 fly.

In December 2024, the then-15-year-old high school sophomore won the 400 IM at U.S. Open with 4:07.87. That moved her to #25 on the all-time list of 15-16 girls in the United States with full year to improve her standing in the age group. She placed 3rd in the 200 back (1:53.14) and 200 IM (1:58.65), snagging lifetime bests in both events. She also swam PBs in the 100 free (50.80) and 200 free (1:48.20) leading off NCAP relays.

Buckley then competed for Fairfax High School at the 2025 VHSL Class 6 Championships, winning state titles in the 500 free (4:49.11) and 200 IM (PB of 1:58.48 in prelims).

She lowered her best times in a few off events at Potomac Valley Senior Short Course Championships (1:05.17 100 breast, 2:18.21 200 breast, 54.96 100 fly, 1:59.37) before wrapping up the short-course season at NCSA Spring Championships. There, she won the 500 free (4:44.85), 200 IM (1:56.45), and 400 IM (4:10.52), was runner-up in the 200 back (1:51.99), and placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:46.72) and 6th in the 200 fly (1:59.33). Her 200/500 free, 200 back, 200 fly, and 200 IM times were all lifetime bests. She now ranks 21st in the 15-16s in both the 200 back and 200 IM.

Buckley had an outstanding long-course season as well, which she wrapped up at Greensboro Futures with PBs in the 200 free (2:02.81), 100 back (1:02.32), 100 fly, (1:01.45), 200 IM (2:13.64), and 400 IM (4:45.21).

Buckley’s best times would have scored in the ‘A’ finals of the 200 back and 400 IM and the ‘B’ final of the 200 IM at the 2025 SEC Championships. It took 1:46.68/4:44.88 to get seconds swims in the 200/500 free at the conference meet.

Best SCY times:

  • 200 back – 1:51.99
  • 200 IM – 1:56.45
  • 400 IM – 4:07.87
  • 500 free – 4:44.85
  • 200 free – 1:46.72
  • 100 free – 50.42
  • 100 back – 54.03
  • 200 fly – 1:59.33
  • 100 back – 54.96

Gary Taylor stays keeping recruits away from UVA

You mean girls don’t like going to a program where an associate head coach has prided himself with making girls cry at his previous coaching stops?

You do have to wonder if the situation with Taylor is having an impact on female recruits. it is a bit shocking they don’t have one female recruit for 2027 yet.

Have heard of UVA coaches unfollowing recruits on IG after they promise them the world and they commit elsewhere ….but I didn’t really believe it until now lol

This appears to be a dig against uva coaches, but I’m not sure I follow it. Why would they continue following an athlete once they’ve committed somewhere else?

To go for the flip later in the cycle

Hayley

Because they’ve established genuine and authentic connections with kids and their parents and want to follow their journey regardless of what their role in it might be?

It’s not supposed to be a dig just a funny observation. The coaches are obviously allowed to follow whoever they want.

Perhaps it is a sign of respect that you have committed and made your decision and we are not going to try to undo that? Makes sense to me.

Coaches probably contact 20-30 kids each cycle of each gender. That’s 40-60 kids every single year. Not sure how long they’ve been coaching but say a decade, thats between 400-600 people. Besides that, I don’t see how following someone on Instagram, where most them probably post once a month of pictures of them hanging out with their friends is “following their journey”.

It’s not the coaches, it’s an Instagram account run by the social media team. I don’t Todd is down in Florida keeping tabs on who they follow

They are striking out early so far… Wonder what their plan will be if they miss on Erisman or Derivaux.

They’re in really good shape with three high-profile internationals for the 2027 class. But yeah it generally seems Erisman and/or Derivaux or bust for 2027 domestics, unless there are any decommits.

Meanwhile, the men’s team has six commits for the 2027 class.

I thought their high-profile internationals were for ‘26? Who do they have already committed for ‘27?

Vaswammer

None, thus “really good shape.”

You can usually tell with the internationals when they’re active on the socials of Virginia and its swimmers. That’s how it was easy to figure out Pavalic, Pudar, and Plytnykaite were coming, for instance, before the Virginia social team teased the commitments.

Probably transfers and internationals. That’s how they’re trying to fix issues with the past couple classes that Cal, Tennessee, and Texas have dominated in recruiting.

Will still be slightly eyebrow raising if they don’t end up with any Americans though (or a weaker domestic class than nc state lol)

you can be sure Todd isn’t resting on his laurels the man has been working his magic on no 2 Erisman behind the scenes

technically a done deal but to give the appearance of impartiality Rylee’s waiting to be done with her last visit before announcing her pledge to UVA

as for no 1 Derivaux word on the street is Audrey leaning towards an already stacked Stanford class of no.12 Carolin He & no. 14 Izzy Riva

you all heard it here first

Did she even visit Stanford?

Nope. Erisman may have taken a trip to Charlottesville but it’s doubtful she’s a “done deal” when the program there is being investigated by SafeSport. No coincidence that Virginia is striking out so far on this recruiting class… Erisman & Derivaux were also hosted by Tenn with some internationals. The pair could come as a package deal for whatever program will be lucky to land them! The Vols recently got a verbal from Kaidy Stout.

Correction: Erisman & Derivaux paid a visit together to Virginia, Cal & Texas. Derivaux wasn’t at Tennessee.

If they commit somewhere else, it’s time to move on. If the kids want to revisit later, I’m sure they know how to contact the coaches
