WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Tennessee swimming and diving program opens the 2019-20 season Friday with its annual dual meet at UNC Wilmington.

The meet starts at 2 p.m. at the Seahawk Natatorium. This will be the sixth time the combined men’s and women’s teams have opened the season at UNC Wilmington.

Each year, Tennessee travels to Wilmington and near by Wrightsville Beach for training and team building to begin the regular season. The weekend’s events include an open water race in the Atlantic Ocean with the UNCW team on Saturday morning, weather permitting.

Last season, the UNCW trip was cancelled due to Hurricane Florence.

Tennessee’s newcomers got their first taste of collegiate action at the Orange and White Meet last weekend, but Friday marks the first regular season meet for UT’s newest Vols. Tennessee has 15 freshmen (7 men, 8 women) and three transfers – diver Grace Cable and swimmers Kaitlin Harty and Kendall Shields.

UNCW – “the cradle of coaches”…or is it the U Pacific of the East. Maybe both.
